After learning the basics of the pass line bet, you are ready to put some more action on the table. Pass line bets are great for keeping you in the game at a low disadvantage; now press your luck with the come bet for the chance to win big.

Craps, The Story

The come bet is easy to learn because it functions just like the pass line bet.  The only difference is the come bet is placed whenever there is already a point number established.  The point is the number the shooter is aiming to make in order to win the pass line bet.

With the come bet the initial result is once again decided starting with the next roll of the dice, with the 7 and 11 winners and the 2, 3 and 12 losers.  If a point number is rolled instead, your bet is decided on having the point number rolled again before a 7.

Like you do with the pass line, you can bet your “odds” bet with the come, getting paid at the true mathematical odds should you win.  With triple odds, you can have hundreds of dollars at risk on the table and still face a house edge against you of less than one dollar.  Lots of action for a low price, does it get any better than that?

The come bet allows you to win on multiple numbers and allows for a big score should you be on the table when the roll of the night occurs.  Of course the player risks more money on the roll, but get on a hot table that is generating a lot of numbers and the come bet will give you a much bigger reward when you cash out.

A good way to limit the effects of a bad session is to have no more than three numbers working, comprised of one pass line and two come bets, all with odds.  The 7 is eventually going to rear its ugly face so always remain wary of having too many wagers on the table at risk on one roll.

Most players want to press their bets at the craps table.  A good concept is increase your bets only when you have fully recovered your initial bets at risk.  After three hits on any of your numbers you have won enough to cover your initial investment plus a small increase in bet size.

You can do much of your pressing through backing your bets with higher odds.  Moving up to five times odds gives the house no additional edge and as long as the numbers keep hitting will boost your win significantly.  However even when you have the dice going your way don’t give away most of your profit because of greed.

Designing a program for your playing strategies at any game is a personal decision.  Risk plays a big role in sensible betting at a craps table and only the player knows his tolerance for risk.  The key is to make these decisions before you are at the table and when you are playing be sure to follow your program consistently without deviation.

With the pass line and come bet under your belt, you can play a tough game in the casino's eyes.  You give the casino a minimal edge on you, but give yourself the possibility of leaving with a big win should the dice cooperate.  Is there any better way to play?

In the next article I will wrap up my thoughts on craps and give some specific play strategies.
