Since March madness is upon us, I am going to dedicate this article to a few strategies that have made me some coin in the tourneys.

A good conference tourney angle is to play against a team that has played the night before and is now playing an early day game against a team that did not play the night before. Play this angle even stronger if the other team did not play at all the day before. This angle basically says go against a team that has had 16 or less hours to recoup after a game the previous night.

Here is how I'm going to play this angle. If a team that played the night before is a dog, and the other team played an early day game the day before, I will play the favorite for one unit. If a team that played the night before is a dog and the other team did not play at all the day before, I will play the favorite for two units.

If a team that played the night before becomes the favorite in the next day early game, I will go against them for two units. If both teams played a night game and then play the early game the next day (16 or fewer hour’s turnaround for both teams) the angle will NOT apply and I will not play the game based on this angle.

As in the conference tourneys, you have to look at teams stats on the road to evaluate how they play away from home. I've heard some people say that because both teams play away from home this factor is irrelevant and you can just use teams overall stats. NO WAY!! Some teams play significantly different on the road then home. (Particularly shooting percentage).

Most teams shoot better home then on the road. But for some teams, the disparity is very large. Other teams are much more consistent home and away. Some teams in this tourney have ZERO quality wins (against a team in the tourney) away from home. Hard to ask a team like that to cover as a favorite on the road if they've never done it all year.

Another important factor is that teams face other teams with different styles of play. This is important ... particularly if a team's opponent hasn't had to face that style of play during the season. One of the reasons a team like Temple usually advances in the tourney is because of their style of play.-A match up zone- is one that most teams don't face during the season. Another team that plays a style not often seen by opponents is Sanford (sort of a deliberate style like Princeton ).

A very important factor... And particularly for finding live big dogs... is three points shooting. The trey basically enables a team that is out-manned on paper or on the boards to hang around as a big dog. I love double digit underdogs that are good trey shooters, because very often first and second round upsets happen because of hot trey shooting. Remember Weber a few years back or better yet Gonzaga (it seems like every year they have guys who consistently make the trey) State.
